The Public Market and Assembly Room on Broad Street was designed by W. F. Cross of Exeter. Today it is a Grade II* listed building.
Its three arched entrances have carved ram’s-head keystones. Behind the frontage is the market hall, with the assembly room above.
The building remains a working part of the town: regular markets on Thursdays and Saturdays, and car boots, fairs, food festivals and seasonal events through the year.
